Inhumans S1:E1 Behold… The Inhumans

Simple Synopsis

So, they made this. They let the Iron Fist guy have it, and it turned out about the way you would expect. So I guess, Behold… The Thing They Threw Together.

So we start our adventure in Hawaii, with a young girl running in slow motion away from guys with guns. She hides in some trees and we learn that her inhuman super power is the ability to wear cat-eye contact lenses. She’s approached by a guy with green skin that introduces himself as Triton and says that there is a place called Attilan for people like them, Inhumans. The guys with guns catch up and start chasing them both, kill the girl, shoot Triton, and he dives off a cliff into the ocean, presumably dead.

We pan back to Attilan, hidden on the moon, cloaked under an invisible dome as a NASA rover approaches, bumping into the unseen obstacle. The remote operator on earth tries a couple of times to move the rover forward, confused, before a large hoof stomps down on the rover, killing the video feed. Meanwhile King Black Bolt and Queen Medusa are enjoying some apparently rare alone time before answering calls on their future smart watches. They head off to a meeting to discuss the rover and we learn that Black Bolt can’t speak. They berate Gorgon, who I guess is strong or something and has hooves, for destroying the rover in the way that he did and risking the humans on Earth discovering them. Then they have a Terrigenesis ceremony to give a couple of people new powers and we learn that sometimes Inhumans don’t get powers and are basically just humans, so they are sent to work in the mines. Black Bolt’s brother Maximus is one of the powerless ones, but was spared the mines because of his brother, but he’s still pretty bitter about it and thinks that if they would just go to Earth everything would be better, blaming their problems as a society on the limited space they are dealing with. One of the Inhumans from the ceremony also develops some kind of super obvious prophetic power, but none of the characters are allowed to figure this out just yet.

At a second council meeting Maximus busts in and announces that Triton is dead on Earth, and blames Black Bolt for sending him out on a secret mission to collect new Inhumans from Earth without telling anyone, insisting that they should just go to Earth themselves rather than bring the new Inhumans to Attilan, further signaling his inevitable coup just in case we haven’t picked up on it. Nothing comes of the meeting other than Black Bolt insisting that everyone trust him, and the decision to have the teleporting dog Lockjaw take Gorgon to Hawaii to try to rescue Triton if he’s still alive.

Maximus then visits with the head of the genetic council and tries to convince him to join his side, but the guy decides he is going to turn Maximus in for treason instead, so Max has him killed. Realizing that he’s committed now he just starts his revolution.

With the revolution underway the royal family is in danger and Karnak tries to get most of them to safety with Lockjaw’s help. Crystal, previously to unimportant to mention, instead has Lockjaw take Karnak to Earth and takes over the rescue operation, despite being infinitely less qualified to do it. Medusa is cornered by Max and has her prehensile hair shaved off to save money on the special effects budget. Finally Max confronts Black Bolt, who is nearly willing to use his speak and kill power on his traitorous brother before Lockjaw appears and teleports him onto a city street on Earth, leaving Max in charge of Attilan.

TL;DR
The Inhuman royal family on Attilan are kind of terrible, and the brother who’s power is being a regular human holds a coup to take over, sending the others scattered across the world, if the entire world was conveniently Hawaii.
