The Defenders face off against the NYPD and the Fingers of the Hand in an attempt to rescue a taken ally.
Jessica wakes up across from Misty Knight in an interrogation room. She is told that the others are alright, though Luke is still unconscious. Misty asks again for answers, but Jessica is reluctant to bring her too far in.
Matt comes to as well, in a waiting room, and tells Foggy about Elektra taking Danny. He won’t tell Misty anything either.
Claire and Colleen wonder how they got into this mess while they wait for Luke to wake up, hoping he has information on what happened to Danny, but when he does he is as clueless as they are.
The fingers of the Hand question Elektra’s plan in killing Alexandra, but she tells them the time for hiding in the shadows, pulling strings on puppets, is over.
The police captain brings Matt, Jessica, and Luke in for questioning, and is on the verge of considering them suspects in Stick and Sowande’s murders. Luke gives them the name of the Hand, but no more. Before the captain can throw them in jail, Matt convinces him to let them talk over their options, with a bit of encouragement from Misty. On the way Matt gets pulled aside by Karen, wondering why he’s willing to risk the life that he’s built, but he tells her that this is his life.
While they wait for Matt, Misty asks Luke again to let her in, worried that he’s setting himself up as a martyr. He tells her he’s just trying to keep her safe.
Elektra takes Danny underground as the fingers of the Hand watch, deciding to wait to kill her until after they see if she will succeed. Danny is surprised at what he sees.
Matt, Luke, and Jessica come to the conclusion that Danny is most likely still alive, and has probably been taken to Midland Circle, but are unsure of how to get away from the cops. Foggy interrupts to remind Matt that the cops cannot find out that he is Daredevil, and that investigation will undo all of their legal work. To help keep his lives separate, Foggy also brings Matt a gift, his suit.
As the captain informs Misty that this case will make or break her career, a loud crash and alarms ring through the building. They rush toward the sound to find that the heroes have simply busted through a wall to escape.
Elektra tells Danny that the door they are looking at was sealed by a previous Iron Fist, and that only another one can open it. Behind the door lies the Hand’s true power. She tells him he can remove the shackles of his elders and be free if he joins her.
With the cops hot on their tails, the heroes hop on the subway. In the chaos at the precinct, Colleen sneaks into the evidence locker and grabs the blueprints for Midland Circle, and eyes the explosives recovered from Raymond’s hotel room. Foggy tells Karen that he brought Matt the suit, and hopes that they’ll have him back when all of this is over. Misty hopes that Claire will have some idea of where Luke has gone, and is reminded that he’s a good man, and that Misty was the one that asked him to get involved in the first place. Then they realize that they’ve lost Colleen.
The heroes reach Midland Circle and head for the parking garage, their only way in, but find it occupied by Murakami, Madame Gao, and Bakuto. They tell them that they aren’t leaving without Danny, and prepare for a fight.
Elektra continues to try to convince Danny that they are the same, seeking their own fate, regardless of what they’ve been told. He begins to agree with her, but decides that his fate includes taking her down.
As Danny and Elektra fight underground, the other heroes engage in a desperate struggle with the Fingers of the Hand. The fight is a stalemate, slipping in the Hand’s favor, though they gain some help with the arrival of Colleen. A broken gas main leads to a wall of fire separating the fighters, and the Hand takes the opportunity to retreat into the building. Danny’s fight isn’t going so well, he holds his own for a while, but Elektra is clearly the superior fighter. She continues to taunt him, until he loses his patience and unleashes the Iron Fist.
Before the heroes can enter the building, Misty drives up with Claire, telling them that the NYPD is nearly on them. She asks how long she needs to stall them.
Elektra continues to toy with Danny as he comes after her again and again, dodging every punch. Without him noticing, she draws the fight back to the door, and directs his fist straight through it, breaking the seal. Proving again that DANNY RAND IS THE WORST. With the seal broken, power goes out throughout the city.
The heroes enter the building, blocking the way behind them to keep the cops out. Daredevil senses an elevator that can take them down below the building, but before they go Colleen shows them the C4 that she stole from the precinct, and the architect’s plans to destroy the building. Once they have Danny they can bring it down to destroy the hand once and for all. Most of the others object, not wanting to be branded as terrorists, but Matt confirms that the building is empty except for them and the Hand.
Having fallen through the doorway, Danny finds himself inside the skeleton of a long dead dragon.
