Daredevil S1:E8 Shadows in the Glass

Simple Synopsis

After facing his past, Fisk makes a bold new move.

Daredevil’s efforts begin to bear fruit, as the members of Fisk’s organization continue to lose confidence in him. Nobu is upset about the loss of the Black Sky, Leland worries about Daredevil knowing who he is, and Gao informs Fisk that if he does not improve the situation, she will leave him as well. With his friend’s world falling apart, Wesley decides to bring in Vanessa in the hopes that her presence will help.

Meanwhile, Karen and Foggy decide to tell Matt about their investigation, and he immediately tells them what a bad idea it is, and how dangerous it could be. He convinces them to take a more careful route, trying to build a legal case against the people behind Union Allied, but as Daredevil he approaches Ben to share the additional information that only the man in the mask would know.

Wilson tells Vanessa about his past, about his abusive father’s failed run for city council. He tells her about how his father would beat his mother, how he forced him to beat a kid that offended him. And he tells her about how he stopped his father one night with a hammer to the back of the skull, viciously beating the life out of him.

Ben begins to write up the story to call out Fisk, dragging him out of the shadows to expose him to the city, but is preempted by a press conference. Fisk decides to get ahead of them by coming out to the world as a philanthropist, with a vision of making the city a better place. Realizing that his article is now useless, Ben deletes it, and Matt flies into a rage at being out maneuvered.

TL;DR
We learn that as a child, Fisk murdered his abusive father. Vanessa accepts him despite this, and together they move Wilson from a shadowy hidden figure to a public philanthropist.
