Oh man, Foggy is pisssssssed.
I’ll be honest, with this episode its not so much about what happens as the emotions behind it. This one leans strong on character emotion and performance rather than on step by step plot development, and is much better watched than read about.
That being said: Matt wakes up in his apartment, stitched up and alive after his fight with Nobu and Fisk, to find Foggy watching over him. His partner is understandably upset by Matt’s deception, and feels betrayed in so many different ways by all of the secrets that Matt has kept from him about his vigilantism and his abilities. It leaves Foggy questioning their entire friendship and partnership.
Through a series of flashbacks we watch as the two lawyers meet and form their friendship, and the path that led them to becoming business partners and starting their own firm.
Foggy continues to berate Matt about his activities, wondering if he even considered what would happen to him and Karen if Matt were to get caught, and how his friend would even consider attempting to murder Fisk, regardless of what he had done. Fed up, Foggy eventually storms out of Matt’s apartment and returns to the offices. He finds the sign he had commissioned for Nelson and Murdock, and throws it in the trash.
Meanwhile, Ben is struggling with issues of his own as his wife’s health continues to deteriorate, and their insurance is running out. He decides it is time to retire, and leave the story to Karen while he takes care of his wife, but Karen convinces him to come with her to a hospice house upstate. When they arrive he learns that she has tricked him, she is actually there to interview Fisk’s mother who has been hidden away at the home. The older woman is losing her mind, and lets slip to the two of them that Fisk murdered his father as a child.
Elsewhere, Fisk holds a fundraiser gala, further ensconcing himself as a pillar of the community. The event turns tragic when several of the attendees, including Vanessa, suddenly show signs of being poisoned.
