The Punisher’s personal war hits a new level.
It’s a day of funerals, laying to rest the victims of the Punisher. Matt, Karen, and Foggy meet with Matt’s priest to pay last respects to Grotto, leaving Matt feeling conflicted about his convictions not to kill. Across town, the Kitchen Irish gather to bury their dead as their absent leader returns angry at the loss of his son, and more angry at the loss of his money, millions stolen by the Punisher. He sends his men into a frenzied search for the vigilante, leading to finding his hideout and the leader, Finn, figuring out who he is.
Karen begins her own search for the Punisher, convinced that the head wound found in Tower’s case files points to a deeper story. She tracks down the nurse that cared for Frank Castle after his shooting and learns that someone wanted to just let him die. The nurse leads her back to Frank’s house and she finds out that he had a family and a distinguished military career before taking on the role of the Punisher.
Trying to keep Karen out of trouble, Daredevil begins his own search for the Punisher, and learns from Brett that the Irish have been tearing up the city looking for him. Brett blames Daredevil for encouraging vigilante behavior and weakening the standing of the police.
The Irish catch up to Frank at a carousel in the park and ambush him. He is able to kill a few of them, but is ultimately overpowered. Daredevil catches up too late, but finds a survivor and is able to set off in pursuit.
The Irish leader tortures Frank, pressing for the location of the stolen money, but he won’t talk. When they threaten to kill the dog that he saved he finally gives in and gives them the location, but when they try to retrieve the money they set off a bomb, blowing it away. Frank uses Finn’s confusion and anger as an opportunity to cut his bonds and starts blasting away, revealing that the whole situation was a trap that he set to get the Irish where he wanted them. He demands information, wanting to know who was there when his family was killed, but receiving none just takes out his vengeance and kills Finn.
Daredevil arrives to help Frank fight his way out of the Irish compound, promising that the Irish would pay for what they’ve done but continually keeping Punisher from killing anyone else. Once they are clear of the compound Frank collapses from his wounds, and admits that he’s done for. He tells Matt about watching his family die at the carousal, in a shootout between the Dogs of Hell, the Cartel, and the Kitchen Irish. Sympathetic but still opposed to Frank’s methods, Daredevil turns him over to Brett, asking that the officer take credit for the arrest, taking the power back from the vigilantes. Torn, but certain that Daredevil is at least better than the Punisher, Brett lets him leave and takes the collar.
Nelson and Murdock gather at Josie’s bar to celebrate the capture of the Punisher, and Matt and Karen start to push their relationship into new territory, cementing a romantic bond and making plans for a date. Returning home Matt is on top of the world, but his world suddenly crashes down when he realizes his home has been invaded. Shocked he pays an icy greeting to his old lover, Elektra.
