Inhumans S1:E3 Divide – And Conquer

Simple Synopsis

What does this show need? More characters to not care about!

Medusa continues to wander around the island, reminding us that she is not remotely used to human culture, and ends up robbing a house to steal new clothes and a gun. Karnak, having forgotten to use his powers, suffering a head wound as a result, gets more confirmation that his ability to predict outcomes is on the fritz, decides that he’s useless to the rest of his family, and that he wants to stay with the illegal pot farmers he’s stumbled onto. They vote to keep him on as one of them if he’s helpful, but one of them would still rather just kill him.

Blackbolt, in the meantime, is sent to prison. Somebody called Declan calls up one of the other prisoners and asks an unknown favor, which we soon find out is to befriend Blackbolt. The other prisoner is an Inhuman from Earth, so they bond over this. The guards are still pissed at BB for causing some damage while they were beating him, a bit on the nose really, and are upset that the other guy is playing nice.

Gorgon completely fails to recognize how convenient it is that his new surfer buddies are also ex-military when they decide for no apparent reason to help him fight off an expected army of super powered Inhumans from the moon.

On the moon, Maximus continues to try to convince Crystal that their society is doomed as long as BB is in charge, though he doesn’t really seem to have any good arguments for this. She agrees to help him by reading a statement, apparently convinced to switch to his side. When he pulls her out in front of the Genetic Council to announce her support for him as king she pulls a double cross, tells him he’s king of no one, freezes the guards and makes a run for it. Apparently being brought out in front of a lot of people and a ton of guards in an wide open space was a much better escape opportunity than trying to fight off one or two to escape her room when no one would be expecting it, but somehow the plan works. She is able to reach Lockjaw, wake him up, and the two make their escape to Earth to look for the others. Unfortunately Lockjaw is still suffering from whatever sedatives Maximus gave him and passes out again, because a teleporting dog would really cut down the number of episodes we need to slog through.

While all of this is going on we get “treated” to a series of flashbacks of Blackbolt and Maximus learning about their powers or complete lack thereof. It might be an interesting dynamic if we hadn’t seen pretty much the exact same thing with Thor and Loki in the movies, but in this case it just makes Maximus look like a cheap knockoff Loki with none of the menace, skill, abilities, or charm.

Upset at losing Crystal, Maximus decides to finally take Gorgon up on his offer and sends Auran to fetch him, sending her a group of other Inhumans to help out, including a guy called Mordis, who has apparently been locked up and is the second most powerful Inhuman. He walks around being snarky in an almost but not quite impressively scary costume while the others make their way to Gorgon.

When they find him a fight breaks out, the surfers, being ex-military, obviously have access to high powered machine guns, and manage to hold their own against the Inhumans with only a few casualties, until Mordis reveals his power of yellow eye beams. So the second most powerful Inhuman in Attilan is basically Cyclops from the X-men. Sure.

Blackbolt, with the help of his new friend, breaks out of prison, catching a helicopter ride from Declan for destination unknown, just as Medusa arrives, but she is too late to catch him. She does find the scientist girl who was also trying to track Blackbolt down, turns her gun on her, and demands that they follow the helicopter.

TL;DR
Blackbolt is in and out of prison, now in the hands of an Earth Inhuman and some dude. Medusa hooks up with help from science lady, Crystal makes it to Earth, Karnak gives up and Gorgon gets into a fight.
