Inhumans S1:E5 Something Inhuman This Way Comes…

Simple Synopsis

Honestly at this point I’m beginning to think that the prevalence of ellipsis in the titles is just an indication that the writers are as bored with this as we are.

Ok, so, to be honest it was really hard to pay enough attention to this episode to keep track of what happened. So I’m not even going to try to get this stuff in order or anything, this is just the highlights of “major” plot points.

Declan begins to run autopsies on Auran and the other dead inhuman with the snake venom who we simply can’t care enough about to learn his name. Seriously, it doesn’t matter at all. Unfortunately for him, Auran isn’t actually dead, and conveniently has healing powers, so she threatens to kill Declan, more so when she learns he was helping Blackbolt. She calls Maximus and finds out that he’s working with Declan, but doesn’t want Declan to know that Auran is also working for him, for no apparent reason at all. The other hunters meet back up with her after capturing the guy that helped bust Blackbolt out of jail, and Auran decides to use him and Declan as bait to lure Blackbolt out of hiding.

Meanwhile Karnak and pot lady are seriously hard core in love with one another and are dismayed to find that her partner in the illegal pot operation has decided to kill them both. Karnak uses his “know what’s going to happen” power to karate chop a bullet, despite that not being something that power would let him do, and because his power is still on the fritz after getting bumped in the head, the bullet instead hits pot lady. Despite having five more bullets, the sudden psychopath lets them run off in to the woods in surprise and just chases them down before Karnak uses the entirely original idea of throwing a rock to make noise and send the pursuer in a different direction. Then, because one person hunting them isn’t enough, it turns out that the psycho decided to sell the crop out from under everyone on the side, and the guys he’s selling to shoot him and start hunting Karnak and pot lady.

Meanwhile, Gorgon, having split up with his surfer buds, scours the woods looking for Karnak. He finds some blood from where Karnak fell, conveniently still there, and never considers for a moment that it came from anything other than his cousin, because obviously no animals ever get hurt in the woods. He begins following broken twigs and junk looking for Karnak.

Meanwhile meanwhile, Blackbolt and Medusa are also looking for Karnak, forcing Locus to help them out and blatantly reinforcing the reason why Locus and the others chose Maximus over Blackbolt in this revolt. The whole argument against the caste system is very well laid out and makes the viewer just kind of throw up their hands and decide that Maximus is right and these clowns shouldn’t be in charge anyway so what’s the point of even rooting for them in the first place, but whatever.

Crystal is also looking for the others, now that the vet has more or less fixed up Lockjaw. She and her new boyfriend teleport all around the island and have no luck finding anyone, so I guess Lockjaw isn’t great at the whole “take me to x” thing. Her boyfriend convinces her to take a break and go for a swim by babbling meaningless Hawaii phrases at her with no context.

For dramatic effect all of the remaining action waits until its nighttime. Karnak and pot lady attack the new group of pot dealers, but are captured, and they begin to torture Karnak. Gorgon arrives to help a cousin out, and the three are able to escape into the woods. Gunfire breaks out behind them and they get ready for a fight only to find that they don’t have to bother, it’s just Blackbolt and company, apparently indiscriminately murdering a group of humans they came across with no context of what was happening. Good thing it worked out, I guess?

The royal family has a happy reunion, but pot lady’s bullet wound is acting up and she decides that sticking with this group of super powered individuals and the man she’s totally in love with is obviously dumb, so she’d rather wander off into the woods in the hopes of finding a phone and calling the police. She breaks up with Karnak and limps away. Then in one of the funniest moments I’ve seen on TV in ages, swear to Glob, Locus just falls over. She apparently just remembered that she took a fatal bullet wound in that last gun fight, despite apparently being perfectly fine up to that point. With her dying breath she pleads for Blackbolt to be a better king.

Meanwhile, an Attilan, Maximus decides that Auran is incompetent and running out of backup, so he needs to conscript low class workers to help her fight. Tybor expresses concern over this plan, pointing out that it isn’t exactly the sort of thing Maximus keeps preaching about, but Max just gets mad at him. Afraid for his life, Tybor is approached by a group of dudes in black robes. Rather than coming to kill him for questioning Maximus, they reveal that they are trying to take Maximus down, and want Tybor to join them.

TL;DR
Karnak and Gorgon are reunited with Blackbolt and Medusa, but Crystal and Lockjaw are wandering around aimlessly. Auran plans to use near complete strangers to draw Blackbolt out, but it will probably work anyway. Both sides in the coup are terrible and we shouldn’t root for anyone.
