Everyone’s relationships move into the next phase in the aftermath of Kilgrave’s escape.
Fleeing his prison, Kilgrave catches up to Hogarth and tells her to take him to a doctor she trusts, while Jessica returns to the interrogation room to take care of Clements, Trish, and Kilgrave’s father, Albert. Assuring them that she’s immune to Kilgrave’s influence, Jessica is itching to chase him down, but Albert tells them that Kilgrave’s power comes from a virus that he emits, and a sample of Jessica’s blood could help him create a vaccine, protecting everyone. Trish and Albert head off to his hotel room to work on the vaccine, and Clements stays behind to lock down the evidence at the scene while Jess goes out in search of Kilgrave.
Hogarth takes Kilgrave to Wendy’s place, partially for help, but also hoping that he’ll keep his word and make Wendy sign the divorce papers. While there and under his command she tells him about Hope’s abortion, and that she kept the fetus for testing with no one else knowing. A ringing doorbell sends Kilgrave racing out the back, but not before ordering Wendy to kill Hogarth with a 1,000 cuts of a knife. After several cuts and a desperate struggle, Hogarth is in bad shape, but Pam manages to break in the door and hits Wendy over the head, accidentally sending her flying into a glass table to her death. Jessica runs in shortly after, but is too late to stop anything.
Simpson arrives at the CDC facility to find Clements and learns where Trish is. Hearing that they are trying to make a vaccine and planning to put Kilgrave away he becomes upset, convinced that he needs to die. He kills Clements and burns down the evidence before heading to Albert’s hotel room. Trish manages to push him out the door and lock him out, but also steals his pills in the process. Albert theorizes that they are combat enhancers.
Jessica returns home to find Malcom and Robyn hanging fliers for Ruben, and scolds Malcom for helping like this when he knows that Ruben is dead. In her apartment she finds Kilgrave, offering a trade. He’s orchestrated Hope’s release from prison and plans to take her from there, but will turn her over in exchange for Albert. Jess tries to stall for time, letting Albert work on the vaccine, but ends up just knocking Kilgrave out instead after a quick trip down memory lane.
Malcom goes to the support group and confesses his part in covering up Ruben’s murder, but Robyn secretly follows him and overhears the whole thing. She convinces many of the other support group members to turn on Jessica and sends the mob to her door as Jessica promises Hope she’ll pick her up, with Malcom only a few steps ahead as warning. They manage to overpower Jess and knock her out, and then Robyn, not knowing the danger she’s in, frees Jessica’s captive.
Hogarth visits Pam in the prison, and the two talk. Knowing the part that Hogarth played in what happened, Pam decides that she no longer knows Hogarth, and that their relationship is over.
When Jessica wakes up its to a call from Hope, wondering why Jess didn’t pick her up from the jail after her release. She rushes to the jail but is too late, and is given a message from Kilgrave on where to go. She picks up Albert, with what they hope will be a working vaccine, and head to Kilgrave’s location to find the support group standing on a counter with nooses around their necks, and Kilgrave and Hope seated at the other end of the room.
Kilgrave demands that his father come to him, and the vaccine fails to protect him, but while he’s distracted Hope breaks a plate. Kilgrave tells her she can’t kill him, and she agrees, plunging the glass into her throat and insisting that with her death, Jessica will be free to kill Kilgrave. He runs off with Albert, telling the support group to hang themselves. Jessica is able to break the pipe they are hanging from, but is unable to keep Hope alive. Hope makes her promise to kill Kilgrave with her final breath, and Jessica agrees.
