Jessica’s life gets weird when she moves in with a psychopath.
Jessica puts herself in the belly of the beast, moving back into her childhood home, fully restored to its old state by Kilgrave in his attempt to win her over. He promises not to control her, but she quickly finds that he has safeguards in place: a paid bodyguard and two innocent servants he can threaten to keep her in line.
Simpson attempts to get her out, convinced that she’s being controlled, and warns her that he’s placed a bomb in the house to take out Kilgrave, but she steals his phone, tells him to leave it to her, and warns Kilgrave about the bomb. She insists to Simpson that she needs Kilgrave alive and isn’t willing to let the others die either.
The next day an encounter with a nosy neighbor leads to an argument about the nature of rape between Kilgrave and Jessica that prompts him to show her a video from the stolen data drive that got Reva killed. The video shows him as a child, with his parents performing experiments on him, accidentally giving him his power. He insists that his childhood was worse and she wonders if he’s the monster he is just because he doesn’t know any better.
To test her theory Jessica convinces him to go with her to the site of a hostage situation. Combining their power sets the two are able to stop the gunman and save lives, to the accolades of the hostages. Revved up by the experience, Kilgrave suggests that they should become a hero team, but insists that he would never be able to tell right from wrong without Jessica’s input. She convinces him to let her leave on her own for some time to think, promising to come back.
Jessica runs the hero team up idea past Trish, wondering if she could even pull it off, and if it would be possible to harness Kilgrave’s powers for good. Meanwhile, Jeri texts Jessica, insistent that she drum up dirt on her ex as the divorce situation is heating up, but Kilgrave intercepts the message, having stolen Jessica’s phone.
Having made her decision, Jessica returns to the house with a peace offering of Chinese food, telling Kilgrave she’s willing to give the team up a try. She insists that they let the servants eat with them, and they both pass out from drugged food. Using the distraction, Jessica injects Kilgrave with the anesthetic and throws him over her shoulder, hoping to get away before the bodyguard can catch her.
On the way out the door she encounters Simpson and his team of military buddies instead. Simpson insists that she let him finish the job, but Jessica uses her powers and leaps into the air, taking Kilgrave away. The nosy neighbor approaches Simpson with a gift from Kilgrave, which he sees is his previously placed bomb. It goes off, apparently taking out Simpson and his crew.
