Scarfe has a really bad day.
Having pulled the confiscated guns from the police lock-up, Detective Scarfe sets up a meeting with Cottonmouth to return the guns, but pointing out Cottonmouth’s weakened position in the town due to Luke’s efforts, Scarfe demands a large extra payout from Cottonmouth for his efforts. The disrespect of the situation sends Cottonmouth over the edge, and he starts to beat Scarfe down, grabs the cop’s gun and shoots him. Before he can finish the job witnesses start watching from across the street, so Cottonmouth leaves Scarfe there to die.
Claire reconnects with Luke and wants to know how he’s been and tries to convince him that his abilities make him special, and that he could do so much good for the community if he were to commit to being a hero. When the two return to the barbershop they find it broken open, with a dying Scarfe bleeding out on the floor. Claire rushes to try to stabilize him, but when Luke learns that Scarfe was not only working with Cottonmouth but directly murdered Chico, he is ready to let the man die. Scarfe makes a final bid for his life, pointing out that he has evidence that can put Cottonmouth away for good. Luke sets off for Scarfe’s apartment to retrieve the evidence, while Claire continues to try to keep him alive for his testimony.
Meanwhile, the police are alerted that Scarfe is under investigation and missing, and begin a citywide manhunt for the detective. Misty and Lieutenant Perez head to Scarfe’s apartment looking for clues to his whereabouts, and Misty decides to stake out the apartment in case he returns. Instead she spots Luke as he retrieves Scarfe’s notes. She isn’t quick enough to catch him, but he knows that she’ll be on his heels as he returns to the barbershop.
With a van loan from Claire’s mom, Luke and Claire start to rush Scarfe back to the police precinct. Cottonmouth increases the reward on the streets looking for Scarfe, and his men go all out trying to take them down. They lose the van, but are able to fight their way nearly all the way to the station. Misty tries to make her way there during the fight, but is blocked by Perez until she discovers his own guilt in working with Cottonmouth. When she does arrive, Scarfe dies in her arms, admitting his guilt.
The department takes Scarfe’s evidence and brings Cottonmouth in for arrest. Mariah gets called out on live television for her connections with him and the illegal money found in her office, greatly damaging her political career.
With the Cottonmouth problem apparently squared away, Clare tries again to convince Luke that he should be playing the hero more often, but he tells her he’s ready to move on, his business complete. Elsewhere the police chief lets Misty know that the their superiors are choosing not to pursue the criminal charges against Cottonmouth and Mariah, citing the scandal of having too many cops involved.
